Agnes Wenham MCSP

formerly of
Johannesburg

This website provides an introduction to the work of Agnes Wenham, a physiotherapist who, following her professional training in Sweden and England, worked in the field of paediatric physiotherapy from 1938 right up until the end of her life in 2013.

Her work concerns physical exercises for healthy children and treatment for those with physical shortcomings. The exercises are most effective when given to very young children, starting early in babyhood whenever possible.

Much of Agnes Wenham's contribution consists of simple gymnastic equipment designed by her on orthopaedic principles. The apparatus is designed to be enjoyable and challenging for children to use.

Towards the end of her life she worked with infants in orphanages in South Africa, to address some of the physical and psychological needs of these vulnerable babies.
